It is the silly season so they say, but for Kipwil it was proving to be a season of socialising! Party after party Kipwil and her family were invited to, which made staying on track with the clean food and low alcohol very tricky. Everywhere she looked, Kipwil could see Seduction or her friends, lurking about piles of gorgeous food, or swimming in cocktail glasses. Kipwil had to come up with a plan fast.
Nanny Nutrition suggested that Kipwil eat before she go to these parties and for the most part it helped. She would eat Nanny's delicious meals and not want to devour everything in sight afterwards. Kipwil though, was the one who came up with the plan that saw Seduction stopped in her tracks. It was as easy as making a Conscious Choice and Thoughtful Decisions.
Kipwil knew she had a friend's birthday party, as well as all the Christmas rounds and then a holiday at New Years. She was tired of seeing Seduction everywhere, watching her, teasing her and just generally taking Kipwil's mind away from being able to enjoy being with her friends. Kipwil worked out a few meals that would be close to clean food that she could order at the restaurants. She asked for sauces and dressings on the side so she could control how much was added. And, a big step for Kipwil, instead of ordering a bottle of wine, she would have one glass.
At the cocktail parties Kipwil attended, she chose one cocktail to drink for the night and kept track of how many she had. She later worked out with Nanny how many calories were in each one and then added those to her daily workout target. Knowing how much work went into working off a drink certainly kept Kipwil on the straight and narrow!
But perhaps, the most important part of the plan was Kipwil gave herself permission to bend the rules a little for these occasions. She consciously chose her actions and the power Seduction used was drained. Kipwil didn't feel guilty or like she had to watch herself like a hawk and she found she could keep fairly close to her plan.
There was another problem over the Christmas period. Inbalance, the Workshop Kipwil was attending to hone her body was shut for the holidays. Sergeant JFDI met with Kipwil and they had an emergency plan worked out. In Kipwil’s treasure chest From Queen Mish were a series of workouts Kipwil could do at a gym, at home or outside in a park or at a track. Another part of this emergency plan was to complete a 50Km challenge in a week....whether it be riding Randy the bike, swimming or running. Sergeant JFDI laid out the time line to achieve this but unfortunately, Kipwil got caught up in the whirl of life around this time and it was nearly the day the challenge had to be completed by.
Well I better get stuck into it, I've only got myself to blame. I’ve got to squish it into three days now, instead of seven! Kipwil thought resignedly.
The first day Kipwil rode Randy along a 15 km track and it felt good. The second day, Hubba Hubba came as well and they rode farther down the track to red sandstone cliffs along the river that Kipwil hadn't seen before. It was great riding, talking..... just feeling the wind in their hair and 23 Km went by in a flash. Later that day, Hubba Hubba took Kipwil to the pool.
" See if you can swim 100 metres without stopping", he dared Kipwil and she agreed, although inside she was freaking out.
Kipwil entered the water and began to swim but after only a few metres she switched from freestyle to breast stroke, keeping her head above the water. Panic had returned. Her face lit up in a huge smile as she struggled to the diving wall touched it and turned....she had just done 50 metres!!! Hubba Hubba was waiting for her at the finish line.
I must get my breathing under control and not freak out!!! Kipwil thought to herself for the hundredth time, frustrated at this constant hurdle.
" You did it! Well done!" he said, " Now let’s do some more." He pushed off and began an easy swim to the end of the lane.
Kipwil followed, much slower but managed to swim a total of another 400 metres, in 50 metre bursts. While she was swimming, Mermaid Mel and her mer- children came splashing up.
" Hey!! How are you?!" the girls both cried as they saw each other.
" You doing some laps?" Mermaid Mel asked.
" Yep, want to do some too?" Kipwil suggested.
" Why not?" trickled Mermaid Mel and they were both off again.
Much later and with swimming over for the day, Kipwil's legs were aching. She had a party to go to that night so she glammed up, and sat down all night, drinking Black Russians and making new friends. She was surprised to see it was 2am when she finally got home! Time had flown!!!! How was she going to finish off the challenge tomorrow?!!!! There was an all day car trip planned with the children and Kipwil had planned on leaving early in the morning to ride before they all left but now she wasn't so sure.
Six am dawned the next day to the sound of Kipwil's children trying to watch TV without waking her….which meant extremely loud whispers and everyone shushing each other so much the room sounded like there was a steam train in it. Kipwil rolled out of bed, bleary eyed and said a muffled good morning to them. Sergeant JFDI was waiting for her, looking distinctly unimpressed.
" Last day of the challenge Kipwil" he reminded her and handed her a bicycle helmet. He spun on his heel and marched stiffly out of the room.
Kipwil sighed. I don't want to! I'm tired. GOD! Why do I have to?Nup, I just won't do it, I'm too tired. I've only had a few hours sleep anyways. I'll just go back to be and do it later. Excuses ran through her head quicker than lightning.
She looked out the window and opened her mouth to say she wasn't going and her eyes fell on the number plate of her car. JFDI the number plate read. JUST FREAKING DO IT.
And that is how Kipwil found herself pedalling along a 15 kilometre track, eyes aching with weariness, legs complaining and her spirit getting stronger and stronger for overcoming her excuses. She did it. And she did it well, maybe not attractively, but strongly.
The next day was Christmas Day. Kipwil woke early with the children and everyone opened their gifts. Hubba Hubba loved the gift Kipwil had for him, his own heart rate monitor. They could work out together and keep track. Hubba Hubba had begun to set some goals and tailoring his workouts towards achieving them and the heart rate monitor would help. Kipwil was so proud of him!
Kipwil was supremely happy, her adult children had joined her and Hubba Hubba, and her family was complete again. After a champagne breakfast, the children went to different areas of the house to play with their new gadgets and toys and Kipwil and Hubba Hubba went for a 10 km run, for Hubba Hubba to try out his new HRM. Kipwil went for another reason though.
You play, you pay Kipwil said to herself smiling. At least this puts some paying in the bank for playing after!
Hubba Hubba cooked the most delicious Christmas Dinner after giving Nanny Nutrition the day off. Cuban mojito glazed ham, roasted vegetables with all the bits and pieces and lastly a decadently alcoholic Christmas pudding with smooth creamy custard. Kipwil looked around the table at the faces of her family and felt a surge of happiness run through her.
“ Today is a perfect day”, she whispered quietly to herself as they were all chatting about this that and the other. Her little family, all together and laughing, sharing and loving. “ I love you all. Merry Christmas”
Merry Christmas my friends and may the silly season be good to you. I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!!!
