It was now a couple of days after Christmas. Kipwil, Hubba Hubba and her two younger children packed the car to visit old friends and closest ‘next door neighbours’ Wob and Eilz and their children in a place called Port Stephens. Kipwil had never been there before and was excited to be seeing friends AND a new place.
The drive was long, twelve hours long. Kipwil and Hubba Hubba had planned ahead though, and packed water for everyone and healthy snacks to eat along the way. It was an uneventful journey, with everyone relieved to find themselves driving down a coastal road, with Wob and Eilz’s home at the end.
The next few days flew by. Great company with lots of talk and children playing in the background, time seemed to lose its meaning. Kipwil and Hubba Hubba made sure they maintained a little exercise though, going for early morning runs before the children were stirring, and going on bushwalks as combined family outings. Climbing in Tomaree National Park rewarded them all with gorgeous views of perfect ocean, glistening white beaches and sapphire blue skies.
It was a time to try new things too. Apart from rising camels along the waters edge, the families went sand duning on 40 m high sand dunes. It was a tough climb to the top, negotiating near a vertical sand dune, dragging toboggans with them and the rush down the side was AWESOME!
Great leg workout! Kipwil thought as she pushed and pulled her way up again and again.
Kipwil’s children learned to get up on surfboards, with Kipwil’s son riding in a small wave in to the beach. He was so proud!!! The sun was delicious, the ocean air fantastic. Kipwil loved being at the beach and revelled in the atmosphere.
Finally New Years Eve arrived. Kipwil sat on the beach watching the waves and thinking to herself. She remembered her year, the highs and lows and was pleased to see there were more highs than lows. She thought about her life change over the last few months, and while she was still sad at leaving 12WBT land behind, she was enjoying her life now. She thought of her plans ahead, her goals and dreams. She felt a shadow on her skin and looked up to see Hubba Hubba sitting beside her.
“ What’s up babe?” he asked, putting an arm around her.
“ Nothing, just thinking.” Kipwil replied smiling back.” We’ve had a pretty good year haven’t we?”
“ You could say that” murmured Hubba Hubba giving her a kiss. “ A very good year and next year will just be better and better.”
Kipwil hugged him back and watched the ocean for a while longer. There was a party planned for that night and Kipwil was starting to feel a nasty headcold coming on. The old Kipwil would have allowed the disappointment and illness to ruin her night. She would have hated herself and her body for becoming sick when she’d looked forward to seeing Wob and Eilz for so, so long. The old Kipwil would have retreated from everyone and wallowed in her misery.
But the Old Kipwil doesn’t exist anymore. That would be the biggest and best change 2011 gave me Kiwpil thought as she and Hubba Hubba left the beach to get ready for the party. I don’t hate myself. I can see that one little thing does not ruin all things. I can focus on the GOOD stuff and not the minute bad stuff. I don’t want to sit and watch anymore, I want to DO. I want to LIVE, not wait to die or for things to happen to me. I want to MAKE them happen!
I've learned how to eat properly and why, I've learned how to be strong in mind and body, I've learned to go with the flow and to not see the world as my enemy. I've learned POSITIVITY and HAPPINESS are real! I've learned I CAN do it and not to give up. I've learned to face fears and to celebrate my successes. I'm learning to be me.
The new Kipwil gave herself a mental high five and set her face forward to what 2012 held in store for her.
What challenge will Kipwil set for herself in 2012? Who will be behind her? How will she go in her next weigh in? Find out more in future episodes....
