Chapter 7: The Runaway challenge

2012 hit the road running.  Kipwil waved goodbye to her children who were off to visit their grandparents on a distant planet called Queens Land.  Kipwil knew she’d miss them but she was looking forward to spending some time with Hubba Hubba and her older two children as well.

Kipwil felt lost without her children and at a loss of what to do with herself without the advice and lessons Queen Mish offered.  Later, she broached the subject with Hubba Hubba, while enjoying a peaceful sailboat cruise in the bay.

“Do you have any plans for 2012?  What do you think you will do? “ She asked Hubba Hubba while they were watching the sun set.

“ Well, I’ve been thinking about this and I’ll make a decision when I get a chance to talk to someone about it but….I’m going to train to be a personal trainer. “ Hubba Hubba replied.

Kipwil looked at him, surprised. She didn’t expect Hubba Hubba to say that and while surprised, she was impressed he had the courage to follow a dream of his.  She wondered to herself if that was something she could do and quickly came to the conclusion that it wasn’t for her at this time. What she was looking for something to kick start her year, to start the year as she meant to finish it, fit and healthy. She had another dream to follow.

A tiny mote of dust flickered into Kipwil’s line of vision then, just slightly catching her peripheral vision.  It shone so brightly Kipwil’s attention was caught and she tried to look closer and catch it on her palm.

What Kipwil thought was a speck of dust was actually a tiny perfect figure made of what Kipwil could only describe as diamond.  It shone so brightly Kipwil could not make out any features, just the vague outline of legs, arms, torso and head. It was the size of a pin, but when it confidently stepped up onto Kipwil’s hand,  Kipwil found the figure weighed heavy like steel.

Kipwil, my name is secret, known only to myself and to you. I am essentially you, the You distilled, your other thoughts and spirit inside you. I am the voice you hear when nobody is speaking. And I am here to give you some friendly advice….you need a challenge.

What kind of challenge though?  What can I do? Kipwil thought back to the tiny creature on her palm.

You have had many people support you, help you and cheer you on. You’ve inspired others, now let them inspire you.

And with that, the figure disappeared Kipwil had the germ of an idea begin to fizzle in her mind.  When the sailboat docked, and they had made their way back to Wob and Eilz, Kipwil put her idea into action.
On her communication screen she placed the following announcement.

“For everyone that likes this status, I will run or ride 1 kilometre in your honour this year. It will be posted as it is done. And for every like, I will swim 50m of the pool. I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE!”

She pressed ‘post comment’ and waited for the results.

In one hour she had gathered 13 responses.  In 12 hours that figure was raised to 40 responses.  Kipwil was pleased to see the numbers climb but was starting to get a little nervous about the swimming portion of the challenge.  By the end of two days, the final tally of responses was…78!!!!!!!

Good Lord what have I gone and done! She thought laughing at herself.

You’ve given yourself a challenge! came the shining voice in her head. Now go and POWER ON!

How does Kipwil’s challenge go?  What was the reaction of the honourees? How does Hubba Hubba go with his dream of becoming a PT trainer?  Stay tuned!
